see the beauty

Viva Las Vegas

When you think of Las Vegas, what comes to mind?  Usually it’s drinking, gambling, shows, and money.  It’s not my kind of town; not even a little bit.

What’s the motto? Oh yeah…

So before our recent trip to Vegas, my husband and I were trying to figure out what we were  going to do there.  We don’t drink, we have no money to gamble (I see it as pointless anyway), and we have no money for shows (plus we were there Tuesday-Friday so there wasn’t much for shows during the week).

We did learn that Vegas is more than just drinking and gambling….you just need either a car or cab to get there.

Two days before we were set to leave we decided to look into how much renting a car would cost, we found one for $10 a day and we jumped on it!  Our itinerary completely changed and we were so excited!  For us there’s only so much walking the strip in 95-110 degree heat one can do and it gets boring staying in your hotel room for that long.

Although, we did have a pretty awesome view!

My favorite part of our trip was when we were able to get off of the strip and away from the crowds and take in the natural beauty that Vegas (and Nevada) has to offer.

It’s been years since I’ve seen the mountains so I was enthralled with their beauty from the moment we landed.  Red Rock Canyon was at the top of our list for places to visit.  We got up early on Wednesday and went out there with my brother-in-law and his girlfriend.  That short drive was worth the entire price of the car rental.

Ladies and Gentlemen…I give you…Red Rock Canyon:

Ryan and Annie 🙂

Hubby and I 🙂

This is definitely, hands down, one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen.  Vegas itself is not really my kind of town, but there is a lot of beauty to admire.  Moral of the story: make any trip you take, your own.  You will enjoy it 10x more if you do.  If we ever go back, Lake Mead and the Valley of Fire State Park are next on our list!

Oh and of course I can’t forget to add the whole reason we were in Las Vegas in the first place:

Katie and Justin’s Wedding!

And what’s Vegas without….

Yep, Elvis! He’s ALIVE!

I so enjoyed your blog, Sarah. Grandpa and I really enjoyed the tour of Hoover Dam . I last $5:00 on one slot machine and that was enough. the decors of the casino’s were interesting. Do not need to go back again, though. Grandma DB
